What is the Catholic Church?

The Catholic Church was founded by the person and mission of Jesus Christ. The word “Catholic” means universal. Today’s Church is truly universal – it is the largest in the world with more than 1 billion members around the globe.

The mission of the Church is to spread the gospel message, administer sacraments and reach out with charity and justice to people in need. The Church is led by the Pope, who is the successor of the Apostle Peter, and the Bishops, who are also in the line of apostolic succession.

We recite our Catholic beliefs in the Nicene Creed each Sunday at Mass.

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Word on Fire

Bishop Baron's Sermon

Bishop Barron started proclaiming Christ to the culture by airing his homilies on WGN radio, which was then the biggest station in Chicago. It was a great start, but he was only reaching Chicagoans who were awake at 5:15 a.m. on Sundays and listening to the radio! Since the homilies were pre-recorded, Bishop Barron responded to a friend’s encouragement and started housing all the homilies on a website. From there, because people could access the homilies anytime, anywhere, Word on Fire grew. It was a simple but powerful idea: spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through multiple media platforms, engaging people with the goodness, truth, and beauty of Catholicism.

Welcome to Good Shepherd Catholic Church

Hello everyone! I would like to introduce myself: I’m Fr. Charito Suan, your new pastor. I came to the States in 1993 from the Archdiocese of Cebu, Philippines. I started my Ecclesiastical work in the Archdiocese of San Francisco in 1994 with a religious working visa. I was temporarily assigned at San Bruno Church, San Bruno while waiting for my documents and official assignment. My first assignment as associate pastor was at St. Matthew Church, San Mateo, Then I was moved to Redwood City, “Our Lady of Mt. Carmel”. After 5 years, I was transferred to Epiphany Church in San Francisco as a Parochial Vicar and stayed for 5 years. Too. In 2005, I took my Sabbatical in Rome. And when I came back to San Francisco in 2006, I became the administrator of St. St. Elizabeth Church and was installed as the 9th Pastor in 2007. For fourteen years, I invested my life, my works and my talents at St. Elizabeth Parish.

Now, I’m in my New Home: Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Pacifica. Effective July 1st, I officially became the new pastor of Good Shepherd Parish. Although it’s hard for priests to move to another parish especially in this time of Pandemic, we have done so much with full trust in the Lord. This is the moment to faithfully move forward with joy, without looking back with sadness and regrets for this is our mission as priests to obey and follow wherever the Lord sends us.

I know how you miss Fr. Lu. He is a great and excellent pastor and leader. I admire him for all the good works he did in the parish. We keep him in our prayers as he continues to pray for us. And we wish him the best of everything his new assignment.

Being a New Pastor of Good Shepherd, I will not promise you anything, but I’ll do the best I can to follow the work of the “Good Shepherd” who cares for His flock.

I am looking forward to seeing you. Keep safe and healthy.

God Bless.
